All water based excursions are extremely tide and weather dependent
We don’t offer a pick up or drop off service by car but we’re accessible within a 15 minute walk from most hotels
Our advice:
- It is a full day activity and although it ends at around 4 pm, we don't suggest combining it with other activities
- Wear decent (conservative/appropriate) clothes when walking around Island
- Bring Water resistant bag for cameras and other valuables
- Comfortable closed walking or hiking shoes
- Suitable for all ages and fitness level
Description
Bwejuu is considered the most beautiful island in the archipelago and for very good reason. Just under three hours sail from Mafia Island Diving, the journey itself is a highlight, as you weave in and out of sandbanks, tropical reefs and local fishing canoes. Depending on the tide, we start our adventure with a dive or snorkel on Bwejuu’s fringing reef. The dive itself is highlighted by a massive school of baraccuda, which you can see from the boat as they start to inspect the boat from just below the ocean’s surface. As you press on with the dive itself, you come across fields of whip coral and large boulder structures jutting up, just below the rippling sea, creating the perfect playgound for a variety of fish species.
As you move around the island heading South, ascending up into the shallows, you have one of Mafia’s most specatcular reefs. Prisitne corals and interesting bommies absolutely teaming with fish. This coral garden is where we snorkel and rivals most of our sites within the marine park. As tummy’s start to rumble, it’s time for a BBQ picnic with a front row seat in paradise. In true Swahili style, our staff will rustle up some fish to be cooked over coconut husks, a divine culinary treat! Lunch is followed by a freshly cut coconut to sip on before slowly drifting off to sleep to the sounds of the waves lapping on the coastline. All too soon, as the sun lowers in the blue sky, it is time for us to make our journey back to Mafia. One of our favourite full day adventures, this expedition is only possible from October through to March.
